Ever wished you could ride a bicycle? Or learn the proper rules of the road? Did you grow up without access to a bicycle or do you have children that need help getting started? Salisbury Parks and Recreation will offer the first session of “Let’s Ride Rowan” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 at Knox Middle School.
The Pedal Factory Community Bike Center and Salisbury Rowan Runners will provide instruction for beginners by using proven methods of learning to balance the bike and managing starts, stops and coasting. Bring your own bike and helmet or use those provided for the class by the Pedal Factory.
For initial training, pedals will be removed and seats lowered until balance is achieved before moving on to pedaling the bike. An obstacle course for more experienced riders will be available as will instruction on using hand signals and other proper rules of the road.
The event is open to all ages. Salisbury Parks and Recreation’s Steve Clark is excited about having the program in place. He said, “We are doing this three times this summer. This one on Saturday at Knox is first, then we will be at the JF Hurley YMCA on June 9 and the Salisbury Civic Center on Aug. 25. All sessions are free and open to any age. With the runners club and the Pedal Factory working to benefit the community, we are able to offer this new program. Bike riding is a great exercise and wonderful transportation.”
