SALISBURY — After concerns were raised about campgrounds at High Rock Lake, the Rowan County Board of Commissioners on Monday will look at changes to local campground and recreational-vehicle development standards.
The commissioners directed the Planning Board to study the issue and recommend proposed amendments after a rezoning hearing during its June 25 meeting.
Several residents spoke about campgrounds near the proposed site. They worried that the rezoning would expand camping activities and associated disturbances.
The Planning Board was instructed to consider zoning amendments about acreage, density, access, screening and buffering, utilities, amenities, length of stay and other relevant standards for establishing or maintaining a campground and RV park.
During the commissioners’ 3 p.m. meeting Monday, the planning staff will provide a suggested resolution.
The commissioners may opt to schedule a public hearing to enact a moratorium on the changes on Aug. 6.
Other items on Monday’s agenda include:
• The commissioners will consider signing an agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services.
Counties are required to enter into a written agreement each year with the department that specifies performance requirements and administrative responsibilities with regard to all social services programs other than medical assistance.
• The commissioners could appoint seven people to three local boards — the ABC Board, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Region F Aging Advisory Committee.
