MOORESVILLE — A 20-year-old Cleveland man has been charged with statutory rape of a child.

On June 9, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible sexual assault involving a 15-year-old girl. The assault allegedly occurred at a home in Mooresville.

Detective Sgt. Katie Harwell of the Special Victims Unit interviewed the victim at Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center. She identified Cameron Jamal Witherspoon as the man who assaulted her.

Witherspoon, of 1130 Shinnville Road, Cleveland, was arrested June 29 on a charge of felony statutory rape of a child. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was issued a $20,000 secured bond.
