Police: Victim chases suspect after vehicle break-in

SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was charged with breaking into a vehicle after the owner saw him going through his truck and chased the suspect, according to a Salisbury Police Department report.

The truck was parked at Walmart on Saturday evening. When the owner came out of the store, he saw the suspect and chased him. The suspect dropped several items outside the vehicle. The victim lost sight of the suspect, but police caught him near Harrel Street a short time later.

Police charged Darrell Sherwood Thompson Jr., 49, of the 800 block of Carpenters Circle, with felony breaking and entering.

Thompson is on probation on a June conviction for misdemeanor larceny in Davie County. He has previous convictions for obtaining property by false pretenses, misdemeanor breaking and entering, traffic infractions, larceny offenses, and felony breaking and entering.

He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
