CHINA GROVE — Elva Jackson recently won $18,000 in the South Rowan Y Service Club’s annual drawing.
Held for the 29th year, the fundraiser sells 250 raffle tickets at $150 each. South Rowan Y Service Club members hold the drawing on Farmers Day as they sell drinks and pork barbecue.
The organization partners with the China Grove Civitan Club, South Rowan YMCA board of managers, and South Rowan FFA Alumni Association to sell the tickets.
The South Rowan Y Service Club provides YMCA financial scholarships, supports Carson and South Rowan high school Bible teaching associations and buys YMCA equipment.
The winner can choose between a 2018 Ford Escape SUV or $18,000 in cash. Jackson opted to take the cash.
On hand for the presentation were the winner; her husband, Lewis; Mark Smith, general manager at Cloninger, and Larry Cloninger, president of Cloninger Auto Group; Gay Roberts, project chairwoman; Aaron Crowe, YMCA executive director and club member; and Terry Bradley, vice president.
Elva Jackson is also regional treasurer for the South Rowan Y Service Club.
