KANNAPOLIS — A Kannapolis man who was wanted in the murder of his wife 19 years ago in Texas was arrested at his workplace in Charlotte this week.
The arrest came through the cooperation of multiple local and federal law enforcement agencies.
On Tuesday, a team of officers tried to locate the suspect, Apolinar Tejeda, 66, at his residence in the 2200 block of Rod Drive in Kannapolis. The team included the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Reduction Unit and Special Investigations Unit; Kannapolis Police Department; and the Winston-Salem Office of U.S. Homeland Security Investigations
Authorities say Tejeda was wanted for the murder of his wife in Stafford, Texas, in Fort Bend County.
Tejeda was living at the Kannapolis address under the name Leopoldo Silva.
When investigators searched the residence, they did not find Silva, but they learned that he was working in construction in the 2300 block of Belmeade Drive in Charlotte.
Officials said Homeland Security offices in Winston-Salem and Charlotte coordinated with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to arrest Tejeda at the Charlotte location.
Tejeda was taken to the Gaston County Detention Center, where he awaits extradition to Texas.
