Rowan weather: Heavy rain expected this weekend

Hurricane Florence has made landfall. Winds have picked up and the rain will likely arrive tonight.
We remain under a flash flood watch from 8 a.m. Saturday to midnight Monday. Forecasts vary, but Rowan could see as much as 10 inches of rain. Six to 7 inches is more likely. Flooding is more likely Saturday night into Sunday.
Today has a 30 percent chance of showers, mostly after 2 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy and 81. Winds will be from the north at 17-23 mph, with gusts around 35 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.
Tonight has a 60 percent chance of showers, with periods of heavy rain. It will be cloudy and 70, with north northeast wind at 20-22 mph, gusting to 32 mph. A half to three-quarters inch of rain is expected. Patchy fog will form after 4 a.m.
Saturday will have a 70 percent chance of rain, heavy at times. Fog will stick around until 10 a.m. It will be cloudy and 78, with northeast wind at 21-23 mph, gusting to 34 mph. One to 2 inches of rain is possible.
Saturday night’s chance of rain is 80 percent, with winds shifting to the east northeast at 17-24 mph, gusting to 33 mph. Another 2 to 3 inches of rain is possible.
Sunday, the chance of rain and thunderstorms will be 90 percent, with east winds at 14-21 mph and gusts around 29 mph. The high will be 76. Sunday night, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will be 80 percent. The low will be 70.
Monday, too, has an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 82. The chance of showers and storms goes down to 60 percent Monday night, with a low of 69.
Tuesday will have a 40 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms after 11 a.m. It will be partly sunny and 85. Tuesday night should be calm, with a low of 66.
Wednesday will be mostly sunny and 85. It will be a partly cloudy night with a low of 65.
