Rowan-Salisbury School System officials say the School Nutrition staff worked Friday to prevent the loss of food items at seven locations that lost power. Tropical Storm Michael brought rain and wind to Rowan County on Thursday leaving thousands without power.

A school system spokeswoman said there were seven schools that were without power on Friday, which included Shive Elementary, Cleveland Elementary, Faith Elementary, Isenberg Elementary, Erwin Middle, East Rowan High and Salisbury High schools.

“The school nutrition staff are doing everything they can to not lose refrigerated and frozen products. Staff is continuing to work on a plan to maintain dry ice in freezers and refrigerators, while they are regularly monitoring the temperatures,” said Public Information Spokeswoman Rita Foil.
She said they did lose some milk products.
As to deciding when students will make up the days they missed on Thursday and Friday, Foil said Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody will discuss available options during a Tuesday meeting.
