SALISBURY — A 911 call about an attempted break-in led Salisbury police to charge a local man with possession of cocaine and marijuana.
Police charged Marquise Jerome Cathcart, 31, of the 200 block of Ridge Avenue, with felony possession of a controlled substance Schedule II; misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance Schedule VI; and misdemeanor failure to appear or comply.
Police responded to the 700 block of Maupin Avenue about 3 a.m. Saturday after a report that someone was banging on a rear door there. Cathcart was still there when officers arrived and was detained, according to a report.
A police search of Cathcart found 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and 1.4 grams of marijuana.
Officers said Cathcart knew the person who lived in the house.
He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $3,340 secured bond.
