EAST SPENCER — Former East Spencer Assistant Fire Chief Teon Robinson made a first appearance in District Court on Wednesday morning, days after being charged with felony embezzlement.
Robinson, 28, is accused of using the town credit card to make fraudulent transactions from June 1 to July 31.
He was in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,100 secured bond but has since been released.
An arrest warrant submitted by the SBI on Monday says little except that Robinson did “embezzle and corruptly use and misapply the town credit card by making fraudulent transactions.”
A Post reporter contacted the Southern Pines office of the SBI in Harrisburg but did not receive any comment. A call to East Spencer Mayor Barbara Mallett was not returned.
Robinson unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2017 against Mallett.
Robinson is expected back in court Dec. 19. Landis attorney Rick Locklear was appointed to represent him.
