SALISBURY — A 28-year-old prisoner at Piedmont Correctional Institute was stabbed three times Wednesday morning but did not receive life-threatening injuries, according to officials with the N.C. Department of Public Safety.

About 10:10 a.m., Rowan EMS and police responded to the prison at 1245 Camp Road. The incident occurred in an outside yard.

Department of Public Safety officials say the prisoner was assaulted by another inmate with a homemade weapon.
