SALISBURY — A local mother was charged this week with punching her 15-year-old daughter in the mouth and shoulder during a drunken fight.

The Salisbury Police Department charged Jackie Monique Dobbins, 45, of the 500 block of East Lafayette Street, with misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor child abuse.

Dobbins was arrested Wednesday night and gave a written promise to appear in court Dec. 5.

Officials said a teacher contacted police with concerns about the woman’s daughter, who is her student.

The officer spoke with the teenager, who said her mother often gets drunk and would hit her, according to a police report.

She said last week, her mother punched her in the mouth and busted her lip. She said last Saturday, her mother punched her in the shoulder during an argument.
