High school basketball: West girls roll

MOUNT ULLA — Mary Sobataka made three early 3-pointers and got West Rowan’s girls started toward a 59-24 romp against North Rowan on Wednesday.
Sobataka has exactly 800 career points. She’s averaging 15.8 points per game in the early going.
Sobataka finished with 14 points. Abigail Wilson also scored 14, all in the first half.
West (4-0) played at home for the first time after racking up three road wins. West also got off to a quick start last season, winning its first seven games on the way to 21 victories.
North (1-2) was scrappy early and was down 9-8, but the taller Falcons took charge for a 20-10 lead after a quarter and totally dominated the second quarter for a 45-12 halftime lead. Wilson had six field goals in the second quarter. The junior bumped her career points total to 1,041.
Cindy Connolly (9) and Kia Pharr (8) and Whitley Arnott (7) had season-high point totals for West.
Hannah Freeman, a freshman, scored 12 points to lead the Cavaliers. Sophomore Natavia Taborn scored six.
West won its fourth straight against the Cavaliers.
West is home for a non-conference game against Lake Norman on Friday, while North starts 1A Yadkin Valley Conference play at home against Albemarle.
