Area Sports Briefs: Lots of Friday basketball; Catawba home Saturday

After a quiet, snowy week, lots of high school basketball games are scheduled for tonight.
In the 2A Central Carolina Conference, Salisbury hosts Oak Grove and South Rowan is home against West Davidson.
North Rowan goes to Uwharrie Charter in Asheboro for Yadkin Valley Conference action.
In non-conference games, East Rowan hosts Davie County; West Rowan is home against Pine Lake Prep, and Carson is home against A.L. Brown.

A.L. Brown’s boys beat West Stanly on Thursday, 75-61, and are off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

West Davidson’s girls won against North Davidson, 61-54, on Thursday in CCC girls action.
Lexi Clontz scored 20 for the Green Dragons, while Haley Lowe had 17.
Emily Hege scored 26 for the Black Knights.
College hoops
Catawba is home for South Atlantic Conference games on Saturday afternoon, with the women playing Mars Hill at 2 p.m. The men’s game is set for 4 p.m.

Mid. school girls
Erwin’s girls beat China Grove, 46-25, on Thursday.
Haley Dalton led the Eagles (9-0) with 16 points. Leah Hinceman scored 12, and Icesis Nwafor scored eight.
Madlyn Cherry scored 11 for the Red Devils, and Landry Stewart had five.
Erwin plays at Mooresville on Monday.
East Rowan YMCA
Registration ends at the East Y for Little Shooters basketball (ages 4-6) and boys basketball (ages 7-14) on Dec. 22.
Practice starts Jan. 7 and the season begins Jan. 19.
