CONCORD —  Concord’s boys basketball team started hot.

Carson finished hot.

The Spiders held on for a 70-65 victory at Rimer Gym on Monday.

Concord (5-3) made seven 3-pointers in the first quarter to bolt to a 31-11 lead.

“They were just unbelivably hot and we helped them out with some turnovers,” Carson coach Brian Perry said. “Just a terrible start for us. We spent the rest of the night trying to fight our way back into it.”

Concord led comfortably at halftime, 39-24 and was in control after three quarters, 52-34.

But Carson (2-6) put up  a 31-point fourth quarter to slice that daunting deficit all the way down to three points.

Leading by three, Concord missed a free throw with about six seconds left but was able to  secure a big offensive rebound, and Carson didn’t get a chance to tie.

“Great comeback when we easily could have folded up,” Perry said. “We shot the ball so well in the fourth quarter that we gave ourselves a chance.  We’re getting better.”

Cole Perry had his biggest game since returning from ACL surgery. He scored 22 and made four of his six 3-pointers during the Cougars’ fourth-quarter rally.

Cole Hales scored 14 points. EJ Clark had nine. Coach Perry said Javon Smith, who scored eight, played his best game of the season.

Jason Stowe made three 3-pointers and scored 20 to spark the Spiders.
