The annual Rowan County 4-H Food Show was held Dec. 1 at the Rowan County Cooperative Extension Center. This year’s theme was “Crockpot Recipes.”
A total of eight Rowan County 4-H’ers participated in the Food Show. The youths arrived at 10 a.m. to decorate their tables and showcase their delicious recipes. Family and friends came to support and assist them, with more than 30 people in attendance.
The judge, Penny Collins, visited each youth participant and tasted the recipes. She also asked them questions about nutrition, their cooking experience and why they chose their particular recipe.
While Collins was judging, other attendees walked around to taste-test each recipe and were able to vote for their favorite for the “People’s Choice Award.”
Results of the Food Show are:
Cloverbuds (ages 5-8 as of Jan. 1)
• Griggs Causby in dessert; 4-H participation ribbon.
• Juliana Dry in dips; 4-H participation ribbon.
• Natalee Chapman in entrees; 4-H participation ribbon.
• Adyson Medley in entrees; 4-H participation ribbon.
Juniors (ages 9-13 as of Jan. 1):
• Addison Lambert in soups and stews, first place.
• Elaina Bolick and Allison Mares in soups and stews, second place.
• Jaysa Causby in entrees, first place.
• Bayley Kruger in desserts, first place.
Collins also chose a “Best of Show” winner. Bayley Kruger won with her Pineapple Upside Down Cake, slow-cooker style.
The People’s Choice Award winner was Adyson Medley with her Creamy Chicken and Mushrooms dish.
A booklet was made with the recipes that were shared in full by the 4-H competitors. You can view these recipes at https://rowan.ces.ncsu.edu/2018/12/2018-4-h-food-show-recipe-booklet/.
