Letter: Innes Street traffic configuration needs second look
Published 5:52 pm Saturday, January 5, 2019
There are two traffic concerns that the city of Salisbury and Rowan County should address as soon as possible.
Faith Road has experienced a huge increase in traffic since the onset of GPS systems. Cars and trucks, including semis, are using Faith Road as a shortcut.
Byrd Road is an especially dangerous intersection, and a traffic light should be considered there.
Another concern is the allowable U-turn at East Innes and Arlington Street. The too-short turn lane onto Arlington Street going toward Walmart and no left turns allowed into the area that includes Dunkin Donuts, Blue Bay Restaurant and hotels has made this U-turn hazardous, as cars making right turns on red block the vehicles making U-turns from proceeding. That causes more back-up on Innes Street.
Traffic engineers need to study these two areas and come up with quick solutions before a serious accident resulting in potential deaths.
