SALISBURY — A Salisbury man is charged with a sex offense against a girl who was 10 years old at the time, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl, who had known the man before the assault, came forward with her mother to report the abuse.

The Sheriff’s Office charged Edward Alfred Deming, 59, of Lawndale Drive, with first-degree sex offense and indecent liberties. He remains in the Rowan County jail under a $60,000 secured bond.

The victim is now 17, authorities said.

• A man reported a burglary Wednesday in the 4800 block of U.S. 601.
