NEW UPDATE: Davidson woman found dead on Statesville Boulevard

Monday update:
The victim has been identified as Lakyn Jade Bailey, of 368 Northwest Drive, Davidson. Lakyn would have turned 26 years old today. During the course of the investigation, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office detectives discovered Bailey was staying at a motel in Statesville, and involved in illegal drug sales.
On the morning of the murder, the victim traveled from Statesville to Rowan County where the crime occurred.
RCSO detectives traveled to Statesville where they were joined by Statesville Police, and are currently following leads in the Statesville area, as well as Rowan County.

SALISBURY — A 25-year-old woman from Davidson was found dead with a gunshot wound early Sunday morning at the Country Cupboard store on Statesville Boulevard, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said.
Lakyn Jade Bailey, of Davidson, was identified by the Sheriff’s Office Sunday afternoon as the gunshot victim.
Bailey was found dead at 1:30 a.m. Sunday when Salisbury Police were called to a the Country Cupboard store, 2010 Statesville Blvd, after receiving a call of a reported shooting victim, a news release stated. Police found Bailey dead in a car driven by a friend of the victim.
Salisbury Police determined the shooting probably happened outside of the Salisbury city limits, in the Woodleaf Road area, and that Bailey was driven to the County Cupboard store before police were called, a news release stated. She received a single gunshot wound.
In addition to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation is also helping with the case, the news release said.
Law enforcement is investigating the incident as a murder, and it’s an ongoing case.
