SALISBURY — A China Grove woman was charged Thursday with possession of a handgun on courthouse property after she said she forgot she had a revolver in her pocketbook.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said Audra Fitzpatrick Beaver, 64, of the 1000 block of Brookwood Drive, went into the Main Street entrance of the Rowan County Courthouse. As her pocketbook passed through an X-ray machine, a small revolver was detected.
Deputies searched her pocketbook and found a loaded North American Arms .22 Magnum revolver and a novelty D-ring knife. Beaver said she forgot the items were in her pocketbook.
The gun and knife were seized along with a concealed-carry permit in Beaver’s name.
Rowan County officials said there are several signs leading to the courthouse that give warnings that no weapons are permitted inside.
Beaver was cited for having a weapon on courthouse property. She was given a March 11 court date.
