SALISBURY — Sindy Abbitt and Daniel Albarran have been found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted robbery with dangerous weapon and assault with deadly weapon in the 2016 death of Lacynda Feimster.
Both received a sentence of life in prison without parole.
The verdict came Wednesday after an hour and 15 minutes of jury deliberation.
The murder trial started last week. Jurors heard the last testimony Monday in the murder trial. On Wednesday, jurors heard closing arguments.
In his closing arguments Assistant District Attorney Clayton Jones said Lacynda Feimster was a hard-working woman but didn’t have money.
Albarran’s attorney Karen Biernacki on Wednesday told jurors that because Salisbury Police didn’t test key pieces of evidence the investigation was “sloppy” and “shoddy.” Teresa Church, Abbitt’s attorney, told jurors there were holes in the investigation.
Police were called to the Crown Point apartment complex, located off Gold Hill Road in the Morlan Park neighborhood, on May 24, 2016 to investigate a home invasion and robbery. When officers arrived, they found Feimster dead in her apartment, cradling her 3-year-old autistic son.
