Blotter: Man charged with spitting at police officer

SALISBURY — A Salisbury police officer who responded to a report of an intoxicated man sitting in the middle of the road was spit on, officials said.
The officer responded about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of North Church and West Lafayette streets. Roger Garcia, 26, was sitting in the road. He had a beer bottle, a hypodermic needle and a silver spoon with him.
When the officer asked him to step back to the patrol car, Garcia resisted, a report said.
The officer wrestled Garcia to the ground and called for assistance. Garcia spit in the officer’s face, the report said.
Other officers arrived to assist the officer.
Garcia was charged with misdemeanor intoxicated and disruptive behavior; misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia; misdemeanor resisting an officer; misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; and felony malicious conduct by a prisoner.
He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $17,000 secured bond.

• A man reported Saturday that someone stole items from his building in the 9300 block of Wright Road, Mooresville.
• A man reported an assault Saturday in the 1000 block of Agner Road.
• A man reported Saturday that items were taken from his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the 1000 block of Rosewood Drive, China Grove.
• A man reported a burglary Saturday in the 6400 block of Chenault Road, Cleveland.
• A woman reported a burglary Saturday in the 6100 block of Faith Road.
• A woman reported vandalism Saturday in the 700 block of Pine Ridge Road, China Grove.
• A traffic checkpoint led to drug paraphernalia being found in the 2100 block of U.S. 29, China Grove.
