A Rockwell man was arrested on sexual assault charges Monday just hours after being added to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office most-wanted list.
The Sheriff’s Office added 37-year-old James “Jimmy” Wesley Barnes to the list Monday morning after investigating reports that a child was sexually assaulted earlier this month. By Monday evening, authorities received information that Barnes was at a China Grove house near Food Lion.
Barnes was believed to have been in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, area.
Deputies went to the residence and arrested Barnes. He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $400,000 secured bond.
Investigators determined that a child under age 15 was assaulted several times.
Barnes is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor; taking indecent liberties with a minor; second-degree kidnapping; statutory sex offense; and statutory rape.
