SALISBURY — A home at West Henderson and North Jackson streets suffered heavy fire and smoke damage early Friday evening. No one was hurt.

The Salisbury Fire Department quickly controlled the fire, called in about 6 p.m. by Ricky Miller, who was visiting the residence.

Miller said he and his cousin were sitting in the carport at the rear of the home when someone drove by on North Jackson Street and told them the house was on fire.

From where he and his cousin were sitting, they didn’t see any smoke, said Miller, who called 911. An uncle and cousin were inside, but they were able to get out. The uncle said the fire seemed to be heaviest in a den at the front of the home.

Four adults live in the house. Firefighters had to knock out several windows and cut through the roof in their efforts to control the fire.
