Letter: ‘Fame’ suddenly causes issues

I believe that ‘Fame’ doesn’t belong in any museum or cemetery and that she stands for all the soldiers of the Civil War in North Carolina.
She has stood here in Salisbury, N.C. since 1909 and has not caused an disturbance until the last few years. Suddenly, there are groups known as Salisbury Indivisible and the Salisbury-Rowan NAACP that have caused major trouble within the town.
I believe Mayor Al Heggins should organize a meeting between these two groups and the people of Rowan county to discuss the history behind ‘Fame’ and how you cannot change history. I recommend the Daughters of the Confederacy to stand strong about this subject. There should be no trouble with public safety unless these two groups want to cause major problems for our very historic community. The incident that occurred in Charleston, South Carolina, and the Confederate Battle Flag has nothing to do with Salisbury.
