SPENCER — After being in ministry for approximately 9 years, God called Thomas McDonald and his family to take a step of faith. He was serving as a pastor in Virginia when God told Thomas to go start a church. After wrestling with this call and going to see his wife’s parents, full-time missionaries in South Africa, Thomas became burdened for church planting.
But this church plant was going to be different. After First Baptist Church Spencer closed its doors in 2018, God allowed things to work out so Thomas and his family could move to the area to start CrossLife Church of Spencer , in an effort to bring life back into the old FBC location.
CrossLife Church, at 215 5th St., was birthed in July 2018 and has been opening its doors on Sundays for worship while building a core group of people. In just a few days, CrossLife Church will have its official opening with a 10 a.m. service on Sunday, May 5.
Thomas served as a children/youth pastor for six years and a lead pastor for the last three years. Originally from Roxboro, where his father has served as pastor for 18 years, Thomas and his family now call Rowan County home. He has a heart for people, missions, and seeing people changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
As they celebrate the opening of this new church, families will have the opportunity to take free family pictures, enjoy a free lunch, and receive a free welcome gift. Childcare will be provided for babies through 2nd grade. Children in the service will get to experience something unique as well.
CrossLife Church’s mission is to GIVE of their lives to serve Jesus, to GROW through their worship and their study, and to GO and tell the world what Jesus Christ has done.
