Commissioners OK bridge dedication …
I am very proud of the county commissioners for this dedication. It’s such a wonderful tribute.
— Marlene Eidson Dunn
Historic Salisbury Foundation becomes proud owner …
Interesting name for the home. What is the history behind the name? Just the person that built it?
— Mary Wagner
Next step in city’s ‘Fame’ discussion uncertain
When these people get all the statues removed, what are we, the people, going to do when they start crying that the sun shine is all a symbol of white supremacy and want it stopped?
— Sam Horne
This is historic Salisbury. If we need to remove a statue that offends some, then we need to remove Salisbury altogether.
— Jane Bulla
To me, seeing “Fame” all my life, she is an angel holding a deceased soldier.
The soldier, to me, stood for all soldiers. I would guess that the majority of people that have seen her feel the same way.
— Tammy Garwood Crandall
I beg the City Council, Salisbury Indivisible, NAACP and every citizen of Salisbury-Rowan to stop spending so much time on this controversial issue and start spending time on improving Salisbury-Rowan.
We have numbers of problems that are being completely overlooked because the mayor and the City Council are spending all their time on the issue of “Fame.”
— Cathy Cowan Basinger
I don’t think the City Council as a whole should be held responsible for the “Fame” controversy. The Mayor and her minions, including Salisbury Indivisible, the NAACP and Pastor Anthony Smith, have repeatedly used mob mentality to stir up and divide the community and then drop it in the laps of the City Council.
— Vera Cope
“Fame” as a traffic hazard makes no sense to me.
I suppose it would be a traffic hazard for some individual who has a penchant for driving straight down the entire length of a grassy, granite, brick-enclosed median and continuing on until he collided with the monument at the other end.
— Jay Mack Williams
White, black and brown people are in need of healing from the hate and oppression of history. Jim Crow and other historical actions of hate have confined the hearts and minds of all Americans.
As hard as it is to admit, racism, like alcoholism, must begin with the acknowledgment of being a racist and taking the next steps to recovery.
— Jackie Miller
Organizations partner to benefit youth
Ryan Walker is to be credited for his continuing efforts to obtain funding for these camps. All the school resource officers and community partners deserve thanks and appreciation for their contributions. These are some of the best people on the planet.
— Karen South Jones
Rowan County works to enhance its section of High Rock Lake
I still don’t understand why the McCanless Rd would be considered “direct” access. Bringle Ferry Road is direct access to both High Rock Lake and Dan Nicholas Park. That is where the new interchange should be.
— James Lambert
We need a nice restaurant that has outdoor seating to view the lake and docks that you can park your boat. This would be so awesome.
It would also be nice to have a marina where someone would come out to your boat to pump your gas.
— Beth Meckes Carlton
Letter: Cemetery is the best place …
The one thing I do want point out is that no one has addressed is the topic of who will pay for the movement of “Fame” if it is relocated? Seriously, who pays? We do — the tax payers!
— Brian Keith Maher
Put a Confederate monument in the Historic National Cemetery? Are you kidding me? Those Union soldiers buried there were invading our homeland here in the South — killing, burning, looting and raping our Southern people. What an insult.
— Donna Peeler Poteat
David Freeze: An expected wind plays havoc with a long day
I don’t personally know anyone else with the guts and determination to fight to keep peddling like you have. So, keep peddling and here’s hoping for a break in the wind soon as well as lots of good egg and cheese biscuit sandwiches for breakfast.
— Connie Byrne
High school baseball: Cauble coach of the year for the 6th time
Chris Cauble is a great leader of young men. He’s proven time and again how to get the best out of his players. Congratulations coach.
— Gary Poole
Letter: Don’t give into thugs, move ‘Fame’ statue
“Fame” is no angel. It is a public traffic safety hazard no matter who owns the land upon which it stands. The monument should be moved to a better and more appropriate location by eminent domain.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy and the city of Salisbury can make a land swap.
— Reginald Brown
