Weekend weather: Saturday another bad air day

Published 4:21 pm Friday, June 28, 2019

The air quality will not improve Saturday. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality in Raleigh has already issued another Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for ground level ozone, in effect Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Particle pollution will be at Code Yellow on Saturday.

Sunday is expected to have Code Yellow air quality for both ozone and particle pollution.

Monday is expected to be another Code Orange Air Quality Action Day.

Code Orange means ground level ozone concentrations  may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Try to limit outdoor activities for children, seniors and those with heart or lung disease. In addition, some of the isolated storms tonight could reach severe levels, with damaging winds and large hail.

Saturday will begin with patchy fog before 9, then be mostly sunny and 90. Winds will be west southwest around 5 mph. The ozone pollution is due, in part, to high heat and humidity and a lack of wind to move the air.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy and 70, with calming wind.

Sunday will be mostly sunny and 93, with calm wind in the morning and west northwest wind around 6 mph in the afternoon. It will be a mostly clear night with a low of 70 and northwest wind at 3-5 mph.

Monday’s high will be 91 with sunny skies. The low will be 69.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny and 95. The low will be 73.

Wednesday will also be mostly sunny and 95, with a low of 72.

Thursday, the Fourth of July, will be partly sunny and 94, with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms. The same chance of storms is possible Thursday night, with mostly cloudy skies and a low of 72.

Friday will also have a 30 percent chance of showers and storms and be partly sunny and 92.
