Letter: Why continue illusion of recycling?

The town of Landis deserves better.

It seems that the more that’s said at Town Hall, the worse the news gets. Interim Finance Officer Roger Hosey was quoted in Tuesday’s Post that Landis “is not recycling and has not been for more than a year. We’ve had the illusion of recycling.”

It’s a very large illusion in the shape of a Waste Pro truck that circles the town on Tuesdays dumping blue roadside cans. At my home, that can contains recyclable materials separated from household trash. My household trash goes in the black rollout can that is dumped by the town of Landis crew on Mondays.

The question is simple: Why are the citizens of Landis paying for Waste Pro to empty recycling cans when contents are only carried to the dump? Why would the town of Landis pay for citizens to have garbage pickup on two consecutive days each week? And why would this go on, in Hosey’s words, “for more than a year”?

Perhaps citizens of Landis should just put their tax money in the blue cans to be carried off on Tuesdays.
