Felecia Wesley: ‘And forbid them not’

In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said “suffer little children come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of heaven.” These words spoken by the Lord over 2,000 years ago continue to serve as the foundation and pillars for children’s ministry around the world. Yes, Jesus had the children in mind in his salvation plan when he came on earth to die for the sin of man. Likewise, the church must do same.

The Rowan International Church from its inception has always catered to the spiritual, moral, social and education needs of the children through its Children Ministry as it tries to heed the call of the Lord to “let the little children come to Him.”

As it is, more than half of this church’s youth are children that have been with the church through this department since childhood and we are proud of this great heritage.

The Children Ministry continues to find ways to be vibrant and meaningful for our current generation. Therefore, 2019 was declared the year of the children at our church.

On “Children Day” the children led the service.

On June 30, in observance of “Children Day” the children led the service including the readings, prayers and music. A Birth Month contest was held with the month of August as the winner. Also, during this service, the department’s past director, Lorpu Davis, was awarded a plaque for her years of service.

Lorpu Davis was awarded a plaque for her years of service.

July 29-Aug. 2 was VBS which had 19 children in attendance with 8 youths and 5 adult volunteers. The theme, “In the wild,” spoke to the level of excitement and involvement.

Thanks to Gayle Wilson of Trading Ford Baptist Church who donated all of their 2019 VBS materials to us.

On Aug. 3 was our annual BTS event where school supplies were distributed to school age and college students including our preschool children. It was an all-day fun activity, the children ate hot dogs, hamburgers and spent the time on the playground and the bouncing house.

On Sunday, Aug. 4 children and our youth volunteers were certificated for participating and serving in the 2019 VBS.

Thanks go to our pastor, Pastor Ramble, for standing behind the Children Ministry; and to all our parents, grandparents and church members for helping to make this year’s vacation bible school a success. Most of all, our biggest thanks go to our awesome volunteers.
