SALISBURY — A mother found a gun that her son hid in the crawl space of her home, and officials say the gun was stolen, according to police.

The teenager was found to have marijuana by Salisbury Police Department officers after the mother reported the gun.

Jaquan Omarion Dillard, 17, of the 200 block of South Craige Street, was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance Schedule VI; misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer; possession of a firearm by a minor; and felony possession of a weapon by a felon.

Officers responded to a report of a family disturbance after the mother found her son with a backpack in the backyard crawl space. When he left, she checked the bag and found a loaded handgun inside.

Police said Dillard confronted his mother. When officers arrived, Dillard was in the living room rolling a blunt, according to the police report. He ran out the back door but was arrested a short time later. Officers seized the remains of a marijuana blunt they found on Dillard.

At the Police Department, Dillard ran from officers but was apprehended. He received some scrapes and bruises in the melee.

Police said the gun was stolen from a home on East Lafayette Street.

The teenager was convicted in 2018 of multiple counts of felony breaking into vehicles; misdemeanor larceny; possession of stolen goods; felony breaking and entering; and attempted breaking and entering.
