SALISBURY – The Rowan County Fair will kick off another year of rides, food, exhibits and fun Friday.

The fair will run until Sept. 28 at 1560 Julian Road. It will include a petting zoo, clown circus, dairy goat show, an acrobatics show, pinewood derby outlaw race, magic show and more.

“For over 65 years our friends, family and community have flocked to the fair in Rowan County,” according to the fair’s website.

And different specials for entry will be available on various nights. Students with special school tickets on Wednesday may receive entry into the fair for $1 or two cans of food. Tuesday night offers each ride for $2, or $25 for unlimited ride armbands.

On Sunday, there will be free admission for seniors, military, emergency services personnel and Boy Scouts in uniform as well as free admission with a donation of four canned goods or a new toy.

Car Load Night is Monday, with as many as seven people in the same vehicle parked in designated spots receiving admission and armbands for $45

There will be a “special show” on Thursday, where special-needs students or adults can enter the fair and be partnered with a member of Future Farmers of America or 4-H clubs, said Rowan County Extension Director Amy-Lynn Albertson said.

Albertson said the Extension Service will mostly be involved with the exhibit hall.

“All entries will come in Thursday night and be judged Friday morning when the fair opens,” she said. “People will be able to see their baked goods, arts and crafts so on and so forth that they entered.”
