SALISBURY — A man who stole a vehicle from the Walmart parking lot failed to stop at a stop sign, then bailed out of the vehicle and ran when a police officer stopped him.
The Salisbury Police Department charged Jerome Raheem Soogrim, 24, of the 800 block of South Clay Street, with felony larceny; misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer; and misdemeanor trespassing.
Outstanding warrants from Aug. 24 charge Soogrim with misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
The stolen vehicle, a Yukon GMC, was on South Arlington Street near Old Concord Road when Soogrim failed to stop at the sign, police reported. Soogrim pulled into a driveway in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and bolted from the sport utility vehicle, a report said.
A police K-9 unit was called in to search for the driver, who soon ran out of a nearby wooded area. While the officer was arresting Soogrim, the Police Department received a report that a Yukon GMC had been stolen from the Walmart parking lot.
