SALISBURY — A woman found a toddler wandering in the street and took him to work with her at the Hefner VA Medical Center, according to the Salisbury Police Department.
Officials said although this situation turned out fine, they don’t recommend that people who find lost children take them from the area.
The woman spotted the child about 1 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Brenner Avenue and Milford Hills Drive. The boy was walking in the road near the 200 block of Milford Hills Drive. The woman said she didn’t see any adults around and later told an officer she didn’t know what to do.
She called the police, and an officer met her at the VA campus.
About the same time, a woman called police to report that her 4-year-old boy was missing. Investigators determined that the mother went upstairs to put her 1-year-old in a chair and thought the toddler was with his grandfather downstairs. But the grandfather had gone to the bathroom. The child became worried when he couldn’t find his grandfather and left the house to search for him, according to the police report.
Police said when the woman found the child, he was not far from his home. The boy was not injured.
The Rowan County Department of Social Services was informed of the incident.
Officials urge anyone who finds a lost child to stay at that location, call the police and wait for an officer to arrive.
