A Salisbury man was killed early Monday morning after he fell asleep while driving his car.
Christopher Waller, 35, died at the scene after his Mazda Miata struck a tree head-on, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Waller was returning home from work about 7:40 a.m. when he fell asleep, and his vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the road and hit the tree.
The collision occurred at 830 Choate Road, about a half mile from Old Union Church Road.
Waller was not wearing a seat belt, officials said. No alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision, according to investigators.
