ENOCHVILLE — No charges are expected to be filed against a woman involved in a collision in which a 7-year-old boy died late Friday night, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
A patrol spokesman said it appears the driver, Kelcey Hudgens, 22, of China Grove, tried to avoid hitting the child and was driving under the speed limit. Sgt. J.G. Leonard said it appears the child darted into the road from a private driveway at 6320 N.C. 152, near Deal Road.
The crash occurred at 9:42 p.m. Friday. When troopers arrived, CPR was in progress. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hudgens was driving a 2005 Toyota RAV4 east on N.C. 152 toward China Grove.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
