Letter: Program provides opportunity for Sacred Heart school students

We all have so much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving season.
One of the things I’m most thankful for is the N.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program. Without it, 31 of our students here at Sacred Heart Catholic School would be unable to attend.
Let me share a quick story to illustrate the impact of Opportunity Scholarships. Last year, a student came to us and enrolled in eighth grade. At his previous school, he was bullied to the point of having negative thoughts. When he came to our school, he was immediately loved, welcomed and cared for. He participated in sports, joined a school play and was a team mascot. He’s now thriving in high school, and his life is transformed.
Without the Opportunity Scholarship, our school would have been out of reach for his family. This Thanksgiving season, I’m so grateful for this program that serves so many wonderful families. And I’m more committed than ever to ensure it’s available not only for our families, but families across our great state.
