SALISBURY — A Greensboro teenager is charged with several traffic infractions after he was stopped by an N.C. Highway Patrol trooper traveling 115 mph in a 60-mph zone. According to an arrest warrant, the 16-year-old had a blood alcohol content of 0.10, which is over the 0.08 legal limit.

Edwin Ricardo Briones, of the 4500 block of Southern Webbing Mill Road, was issued citations for driving while impaired, driving after consuming alcohol by someone less than 21, speeding, reckless driving to endanger and having no operator’s license.

A Highway Patrol trooper stopped Briones’ 2015 Chevrolet Sedan on suspicion of reckless driving and speeding about 10:50 p.m. Friday on Interstate 85. The trooper noted in his report that he could smell a strong odor of alcohol on Briones.

He was released into the custody of a sober adult.

In other arrest warrants:

• Xavier Alexander Rushing, 20, of the 1000 block of Zion Church Road, Gold Hill, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon and misdemeanor unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Rushing had a syringe needle, metallic knuckles and meth and was driving a Dodge Nitro that belonged to someone else, according to the warrant. He remains jailed under a $5,500 secured bond.

• Rodney Marquice Covington, 18, of the 1600 block of Standish Street, Apartment 12A, was charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

According to an arrest warrant, he was in possession of a Dodge Ram that belonged to a local man. The Salisbury Police Department said he aided a 15-year-old to be inside a stolen vehicle, according to the warrant. He was issued a $5,000 secured bond.

• Matthew Gibson Taylor, 25, of the 1000 block Shuping Mill Lane, is charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; felony possession of methamphetamine; and felony maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for trafficking in controlled substances.

Rowan County deputies served the warrant for the Elkin Police Department, which said Taylor failed to appear in a Surry County court Nov. 18. The charges stem from a 2018 incident. He was issued a $20,000 secured bond, plus an additional $40,000 secured bond.

He also has Rowan County charges of two counts of felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; four counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; and felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.

According to a warrant, Taylor was arrested Saturday and had a syringe containing a clear liquid. He also had a clear yellow bag with a silver spoon and a can, a blue and silver smoking pipe, gray death heroin, and another syringe with a clear liquid inside, according to an arrest report.
