Giving trees hosted by local churches and businesses

Meals on Wheels Rowan is offering holiday ornaments to the public as a part of their Giving Tree celebration.

The knife, fork and spoon ornaments decorate 28 tabletop trees and two full-size trees located across the county. Each ornament includes a tag with directions. The star on the top of each tree invites citizens to take an ornament home to remember that senior hunger doesn’t take a holiday and make a gift to support home-delivered meals for homebound seniors in Rowan County.

Last year was the first year that Meals on Wheels Rowan used the Giving Trees. Donations supporting holiday meals in 2018 totaled $3,000. Local woodworker James Castle made an additional 14 small trees for this year.

This year, the Girl Scouts of Rowan County added branches to the trees, made the ornaments, and decorated all the trees. Each ornament tag describes how the individual can make a gift to Meals on Wheels so that homebound seniors receive meals over the holidays and beyond.

The trees are located at China Grove Family Restaurant, F&M Bank Rockwell, F&M Bank Granite Quarry, F&M Bank Avalon Drive, Gerry Wood Honda, Greystone Salon & Spa-Downtown, Horizon Bank, Marlow’s Bar-B-Q & Seafood, Price Pharmacy in Granite Quarry, South Rowan Library, South Rowan YMCA, Salisbury Motor Company, Koco Java, Salisbury Wine Shop, South Main Book Co., Sidewalk Deli, The Medicine Shoppe, L.A. Murph’s, Ben Mynatt Nissan, The J.F. Hurley YMCA, St. John’s Lutheran Church, First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Trinity Oaks, Winks BBQ and Meals on Wheels Rowan.
