From staff reports

SPENCER — North Rowan sophomore Hannah Wilkerson sat down with seven minutes left and with her Cavaliers in complete control against visiting Chatham Central.

She’s become a regular double-double person, and she piled up 22 points and 11 rebounds while she was on the floor in a 59-38 Yadkin Valley Conference victory on Monday.

“Hannah is probably a little mad at me for taking her out so early, but we’ve got another game on Tuesday,”  coach Lamar Wilkerson said. “She had a goal of 15 rebounds tonight, and she didn’t quite get there.

Chatham Central (7-10, 5-5) stayed with the quicker Cavaliers for a quarter, but Wilkerson’s 10-point second quarter, mostly on fast breaks, broke it open.

North (13-6, 9-2) led 32-14 at halftime.

North forced the furious pace it wanted and led by 23 after three quarters.

Chatham Central missed a ton of open shots, so North piled up huge rebounding totals. Makiya McDaniel and Kimya Lynch had 10 boards each.

Freshman Kamora Cannie had 13 points, seven assists and five steals and  created havoc for  Chatham Central’s ball handlers.

“It’s really starting to come together for her, and she’s making great passes,” Coach Wilkerson said. “This was a good win for us.  Chatham Central has been beating some people.”

North shot free throws well and picked up 15 points at the foul line.

North Rowan hosts North Stanly tonight.
