Salisbury’s Emily Knorr is the top seed in two events.
HS basketball
There’s a full schedule of basketball tonight.
Central Carolina
With four games left in the regular season, Salisbury’s girls (18-1) are 14-0 in the CCC. They take on second-place Ledford (14-4, 12-2) at home tonight.
• It’s also an important game for the Salisbury boys (12-7, 9-5), who are trying to finish third in the 10-team league.
Ledford (11-8, 8-6) also is in the fight for third. One of Ledford’s best players is Tyler Partee, whose father, Jonathan, was a standout athlete at Salisbury High (late 1980s) and Catawba.
• Both South Rowan teams will be looking for upsets at Thomasville.
The South boys have won their last two.
North Piedmont
There’s another big girls game in the NPC tonight as Carson (17-3, 5-1) hosts East Rowan (16-4, 4-2).
Carson has won 10 straight against the Mustangs, including matchups this season at East and in the Christmas tournament.
All four of East’s losses have been to county opponents.
• West Rowan’s girls (17-2, 5-1) are tied with Carson for first place. The Falcons are on the road tonight at South Iredell.
• West Rowan’s boys (11-7, 5-1) are in first place and hold a one-game lead over Statesville and North Iredell. South Iredell (5-14, 2-4) is dangerous at home and knocked off Carson last week.
• Carson’s boys (10-10, 3-3) have endured a rough stretch but are favored against the Mustangs tonight. East’s only two wins are against county opponents — South and North.
Yadkin Valley
Friday’s postponement of North Rowan’s trip to North Moore has left the Cavaliers (12-6, 10-2) with a challenging schedule.
They’ll make their two longest YVC trips tonight (at league-leading Chatham Central) and Wednesday (the makeup game at North Moore) back-to-back.
North’s boys also have games scheduled for Friday, Saturday, Monday and next Tuesday, so they’ll be playing six games in eight days unless there’s a schedule change.
North still has YVC title hopes but has to win at Chatham Central tonight. Chatham Central drilled the Cavaliers in Spencer last week.
• North Rowan’s girls (14-6, 10-2) are still holding on to second place in the YVC. The key game for them this week is Friday at unbeaten Gray Stone.
South Piedmont
A.L. Brown’s boys (14-5, 4-2) are tied for second in the SPC, but it’s an unusual tie for second.
The Wonders have lost twice to Concord, but they’ve beaten first-place Cox Mill.
A.L. Brown hosts Northwest Cabarrus tonight. A.L. Brown nipped the Trojans earlier on the road.
For the A.L. Brown girls (7-12, 3-3), this is a battle for third place. The Wonders lost the first meeting.
Central Piedmont
Davie is at home tonight against West Forsyth.
Davie’s boys (12-6, 3-2) are only one game behind first-place R.J. Reynolds.
College track
North Carolina A&T’s Payton Russell (North Rowan) has recovered from hamstring injuries and ran on the winning 4×400 relay team (3:36.72) in USC’s Carolina Challenge.
The Aggie women are in the top 10 nationally in that event.
Individually, Russell placed 11th in the 400 and 13th in the 200.
