SALISBURY — South Salisbury Fire Department received a fire prevention grant from Rhode Island-based insurance company FM Global that, according to Chief Jason Burnett, will help them in the department’s response to emergencies.
The $2,595 grant was recently presented to Burnett by FM Global representative Laura McLean. FM Global is one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers, a statement said.
The award will be used to help with pre-incident planning to collect and track data related to community buildings by converting the existing computers on each fire truck to tablet-based technology. The collected data and new technology platform will help the fire department respond to emergencies.
“On behalf of South Salisbury Fire Department, I would like to personally thank FM Global, Ms. McLean and its representatives for selecting our organization for this grant funding,” Burnett said.
“As a recipient of this funding, our goal is to provide our personnel with state of the art equipment and critical facility information to successfully mitigate incidents within our fire district response area. By having this reliable and interoperable equipment at our disposal; we are able to improve and coordinate our incident responses in the safest and most efficient manner providing the best possible service to our citizens, property owners and visitors each day,” he said.
“At FM Global, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” said Michael Spaziani, assistant vice president – manager of the fire prevention grant program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent those organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would like to be. With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”
