CHARLOTTE — The David A. Tepper Charitable Foundation has made a $1 million donation to support local efforts to mitigate the coronavirus outbreak, with Atrium Health Foundation receiving $650,000 and Novant Health Foundation receiving $350,000.

The funds will be distributed by each system’s foundation.

The $650,000 gift will be directed to the newly established Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund. Atrium Health has benefited from Tepper’s and the Panthers’ generosity in the past, including significant donations to support the nationally recognized Levine Children’s Hospital, named a Best Children’s Hospital in multiple specialties by U.S. News & World Report, according to a press release.

As individuals are looking for ways to support Atrium Health during these uncertain times, the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund has been established to support Atrium Health’s response to the current COVID-19 pandemic and future essential needs, as identified by the Foundation and Atrium Health.

“During these unprecedented times, it’s uplifting to have generous donors like David Tepper step forward to ensure that
our community has the very best healthcare services possible,” said Armando Chardiet, president of Atrium Health
Foundation, in a press release. “We’re all in this together and we’re extremely thankful for those in our community coming together during times like this.”

The $350,000 gift to Novant Health will be distributed by the Novant Health foundations in Charlotte, Winston-Salem,
Thomasville, Rowan County and Brunswick in a manner that is still being determined.

New vendors join Salisbury Antiques & Artifacts

SALISBURY — Four new vendors are now in business at Salisbury Antiques & Artifacts. Those new shopkeepers include:

• Janice Hancock – Hancock, a lover of all things 50s, operates Lucy’s Cool Stuff, which offers vintage jewelry and fun, chippy furniture. Lucy’s also offers a large selection of silver plates, transistor radios and crocheted and embroidered linens, as well as yards of lace.
• Francie Austin – A Rowan County native, Francie Austin operates The Bird’s Nest, where visitors can select from a carefully curated collection of décor and vintage items including tools, cast iron, art prints and more. Austin is an interior designer and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill.
• Stacey and Stevie Brown – The Browns are the owners and operators of S&S Wandering Treasures and offer an eclectic mix of primitives, collectibles and antiques including jadeite, rusty gold, pottery and militaria that dates back to 1939.
• Ann Hess – Salisbury native and shopkeeper Ann Hess offers a collection of fine antiques and quirky collectibles at her shop, Annie’s Attic. There, shoppers will find art prints, toys, clocks, linens, glassware and vintage pieces.

Salisbury Antiques & Artifacts is located at 111 South Main St. in the heart of downtown Salisbury, and is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Efird honored for sales achievement

Jay W. Efird, Concord, North Carolina, a representative of Modern Woodmen of America, has been named to Modern Woodmen’s President’s Club.

This distinction recognizes Efird’s high achievement in the sales of financial products to meet families’ protection, savings and retirement needs. Efird ranks among the organization’s representatives nationwide.
