CHINA GROVE — A man who was struck and critically injured Wednesday after he was hit by a passenger car died later at the hospital, said China Grove Police Chief Andrew Deal.
Frank Mishak, 48, of 1240 Shue Road, was hit while trying to cross the 100 block of South U.S. 29 and East Centerview Street. The accident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. and Mishak was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
He was attempting to cross U.S. 29 and was hit by Courtney Wright of Salisbury. She was in a Toyota Yaris in the northbound lane, Deal said. The driver tried to avoid hitting the man but couldn’t.
China Grove Police officer J.A. Vail, who is a wreck reconstructionist, is investigating the crash. No charges are pending, Deal said.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and members of the county wreck reconstruction team, which includes the Salisbury Police Department, also responded.
Deal said Mishak’s family was at the hospital at the time of his death.
