Letter: Alternating route solution for USPS
Published 12:00 am Sunday, April 19, 2020
With the U.S. Postal Service losing lots of money each year, maybe it is time to cut back some on the service.
The mail could go out on alternating days, with the same carrier doing two routes. One week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the carrier could deliver one route. On Tuesday, Thursday and maybe Saturday (or even stop Saturday mail), the same carrier would deliver another route.
This would be phased in as the carriers retired. There is very little mail that is important enough now that a few days would matter. Most important information is sent by computers and is received in less than an hour. Most are sent in a few seconds.
