Recovered count tops 100 as COVID-19 positives also rise

SALISBURY — The number of people who have recovered locally from COVID-19 topped 100 on Thursday as more individuals tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total case count to 373, according to an update from the county on Thursday.
A total of 373 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in Rowan County after 2,389 tests have been conducted. Of the positive cases, 17 are currently hospitalized and 106 have recovered — an increase of nine from one day earlier.
Statewide, 10,509 individuals have tested positive of the 128,517 tests conducted. Additionally, 378 individuals have died and 546 are currently hospitalized across the state.
While no additional people have died in the county after testing positive for COVID-19, 17 of the total 22 deaths have been individuals associated with the Citadel nursing home, which is one of three congregate living facilities in Rowan with an active outbreak. Four other deaths were residents of the N.C. State Veterans Home, and one who was not associated with a congregate living facility.
On Thursday, the Rowan County Health Department announced that it has designated a Nursing Home Coordinator to continually focus on support and prevention strategies for all 25 nursing homes in the county.
In other COVID-19 statistics:
- Individuals aged 65 and older make up the plurality of cases at 149. A total of 76 cases are in the 51-64 age range, 72 are aged 36-50, 70 are aged 18-35 and six are younger than 18 years old.
- Of the positive cases, 209 individuals are white, 105 are black or African American, three are Asian, one is American Indian/Alaskan Native, 30 are white/hispanic, 15 are unknown and seven are other.
- Females still make up the majority of positive cases, at 210, while males represent 163 positive cases.
- Zip code 28147 remains the area of the county with the most positive cases, at 168, which is where the Citadel nursing home is located. Next is 28144, a Salisbury zip code, with 85 cases. Zip code 28146, which includes part of Salisbury and a large swath of eastern Rowan, currently has 50 positive cases.
