J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 and Unit 107 Auxiliary donated more than $300 worth of food snacks, drinks, fruits and other food items to the Essie Mae Kiser Foxx Charter School in East Spencer on March 23.

Gov. Roy Cooper announced a state of emergency to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and, as a result, the school was closed until further notice. The mission of the school includes promoting academic excellence and cultivating confident lifelong learners and leaders. The school can accommodate 150 students-grades kindergarten thru third grade. (Long-range plans include eighth grade)

Mae Carroll, commander of Post 107 said the American Legion’s pillars of service include Veterans Affairs, rehabilitation, national security and children and youth.

“Together with the auxiliary, we are proud to support the children and youth in our community with various projects as promoted by the National American Legion and Auxiliary,” said Carroll.
