SALISBURY – A Salisbury man who just a few days ago was charged with attempted robbery of a convenience store and vehicle theft now faces additional charges related to the store, said Rowan County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. John Sifford.

Jimmy Ray Blackwell, 55, was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor concealment of merchandise. He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under an additional $500 secured bond. He was already jail under a $156,500 secured bond.

Blackwell was charged on Monday with attempting to rob the Durga Mart, formerly SV Discount, located at 3381 Old Mocksville Road. When a cashier bent down to retrieve change for a customer, Blackwell dove under a plexiglass barrier and attempted to grab some change.

He ran out of the store when an employer drew her own weapon and pulled Blackwell off the counter.

After reviewing security footage, they determined Blackwell had a three-pack of Budweiser cans and cigarette tubes hidden in his shirt. The items fell out of his shirt when he reached over the counter.
