Staff report

The first two rounds of the MLB draft (70 picks) were held on Sunday night in Seattle, with a number of players from ACC schools selected, incuding Wake Forest pitcher Rhett Lowder (North Stanly), who was the seventh pick of the first round by the Cincinatti Reds.

A North Carolina high school player, South Brunswick outfielder Walker Jenkins whom South Rowan battled in the 2022 3A state championship series, was the fifth pick of the first round by the Minnesota Twins.

The draft lasts three days and 20 rounds.

The draft resumes on Monday at 2 p.m. ET., with rounds 3 through 10.

East Rowan graduate Chance Mako, a 6-foot-6 right-hander pitcher committed to N.C. State, and South Rowan graduate Haiden Leffew, a 6-foot-3 southpaw committed to Wake Forest, are very likely to be drafted on Monday.
