CHINA GROVE — Visitors looking for a hearty meal and some down-home tunes can get both on Saturday in China Grove.

The Chicken ‘N Pickin will be held at the China Grove Roller Mill from 5-7 p.m. Chicken and dumplings will be cooked on site and sold throughout. No reservation required. Tickets will be available at the door.

Cost is $14 for adults and $7 for children under 10. Live music will be performed by Adam True.

All proceeds will go to support maintenance and operation of the Roller Mill.

The China Grove Roller Mill was built in 1903 by local businessmen looking to improve their community. It revolutionized agriculture in southern Rowan County and replaced all the grist mills in the area.

It was a fixture in China Grove until it closed in 1995, when it could no longer compete with massive industrial mills. Since its closure, it has been transformed into a museum where visitors can learn the history southern Rowan County, especially the history of industry and farming.

The mill will be open for tours during Chicken ‘N Pickin for anyone interested in learning about its past.

The Roller Mill is located at 308 N. Main St., in China Grove.
